Myers-Briggs Workshops

The Myers-Briggs Workshop is now one of the most popular ways to gain self-awareness, and understanding of other people. Originated by Katherine Briggs and Isobel Myers (mother and daughter), and based on the work on psychological type by Carl Jung, it has helped countless people to gain a deeper insight into what makes themselves, and other people, ‘tick’.

 Basic Workshop

This includes the administration of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the questionnaire that helps identify personality preferences, and then an explanation of the theory behind it, with many practical examples:

Where we get energy from, and what we do with it  -  Extroversion (E) and introversion (I)

How we take in our information  -  Sensing (S) and Intuition (N)

How we make our decisions  -  Thinking (T) and Feeling (F)

How we live our lives  -  Judging (J) and Perceiving (P)

This leads to a brief overview of the 16 different personality types, and individual feedback to determine each participant’s own preference.

This is then followed by some practical application – why we need each other, and how we may need to change.

The Basic Workshop is always an enjoyable course, and one which has proved life-changing for some people.

Approximate teaching time : 6 hours

Advanced Workshop

For those who have done a Basic Workshop there is the opportunity to take things further and look at the insights which are given by the MBTI, especially for personal growth and development. The course looks at:

Type dynamics and the role of the ‘dominant’ – whether sensing, intuition, thinking or feeling.

What happens when we are under stress

What it means to be ‘in the grip’ or the ‘shadow’ – those times when we are just not ourselves and perhaps behave not as well as we would like.

The implications for our wholeness and holiness.

 Approximate teaching time : 6hours

 Personality and the Spiritual life

Again it is necessary to have done a Basic Workshop before looking at the influence of personality of the Christian life. Knowing something about the way our personality type can affect the way we express our spirituality can be very liberating, and can open up new avenues for spiritual growth. The course covers:

Personality as a gift from God

            Different people, different contributions

Growth in grace – personality and discipleship

Pray as you can, not as you can’t

            Experiencing God as a Thinker/Feeler/Senser/Intuitive

Some practical expressions – for example, Bible study methods, encountering God through our senses, learning to meditate.

Approximate teaching time  :  6 hours

  Other possibilities

The exciting thing about Myers-Briggs is that it has many applications. Courses can also be given in Personality at work, Leadership Development, Preparing for Marriage, Career Choice, Working together as a Team, and so on.

 Personal Consultation

Some people prefer a personal consultation, and this can also be given. The MBTI questionnaire is usually completed beforehand, and then a 2 hour interview helps the individual to work through the implications personally.
